This is a great article focusing on the fight against being forced to use non-free proprietary software. Everything you use most likely has an equivalent non-proprietary alternative available that won't spy on you, is open source and free as in libre, freedom to do with it as you choose. To change the software, fix the bugs, or distribute it freely with others. You just have to look for it and fight to be able to use it in your everyday life.
